Klabin achieved significant progress in its renewable energy matrix indicator. There was a reduction in the consumption of non-renewable fuels such as fuel oil in the pulp and paper units and natural gas in the recycled operations.

In 2023, 100% of all the electricity consumed at the units located in Brazil came from renewable sources. The Pilar plant in Argentina is in the process of certifying the electricity it consumes.

IIn 2023, Klabin's percentage reduction in consumptive water use increased from 17.8% to 29.8% compared to the 2018 base year. This significant reduction in the indicator was mainly influenced by the reduction in total water abstracted (2.38%) and the increase in the volume of water discarded (0.35%), i.e. use, as well as total water consumption at the industrial units, was lower than in the previous year. The review of the company's strategic planning and operations, as well as the expansion of industrial activities, considering processes with greater water consumption efficiency, were the main influencers of the results that make up the Klabin S.A. Consumptive Use indicator. Specific water consumption = (total water abstracted - total water disposed of)/ total company production.

In 2023, Klabin emitted 141.66 kgCO2eq per ton produced, a 4% reduction compared to 2022. Between 2019 and 2023, the reduction in specific scope 1 and 2 emissions reached 17.8%, which represents 71.9% of the reduction target agreed with SBTi, base year 2019. In 2023, the company submitted two new targets to SBTi, which consider the more ambitious 1.5°C scenario, and a more robust target for absolute emissions, as well as a net-zero.

In 2023, Klabin increased the reuse and recycling of solid waste, motivated by the reduction in the destination of industrial waste to landfills, mainly from the process of purifying shavings and braid waste from the recycled paper industrial units. The company has also implemented measures to increase the reuse/processing of waste such as dregs and sludge.

In 2023, the mapping of the hydrographic basins of the units located in the state of São Paulo was completed, to be included in the hydrological regionalization map.

Tree seedlings are distributed by donation and planting through the Matas Legais and Matas Sociais programs, to rural producers (Klabin's partners or not) in the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina.

In the Industrial Bags business, Klabin developed the Ecomix Bag for cement and mortar, a product made 100% of dispersible paper that integrates into the concrete preparation process, eliminating packaging waste. With over 3 million units sold in three years, this product has prevented more than 400 tons from being sent to landfills, meeting the demand for a low-carbon circular economy. Additionally, Klabin, in partnership with a client, increased the recycling capacity of Long-Life Packaging (ELV) in Brazil, resulting in the recycling of over 7,000 tons of post-consumer waste in 2023. Another recycling initiative with a client in the construction sector involves the collection of pre- and post-consumer scraps for the production of new packaging, enabling the reverse logistics of 1,400 tons of scraps.

There was a 56% increase in net CO₂eq capture in 2023 (a total of 8.13 million net tons of CO₂eq captured in the year) compared to 2022. This result comes from the increase in Klabin's forestry base and also from the improvement in data quality.

The reintroduction project involved the release of 30 individuals of Black-fronted Piping-Guan (Aburria jacutinga). The first batch was released in March 2022, with 10 individuals, and the second batch in December 2022, with 20 individuals. In order to identify the expansion in the forest and the adaptation of the species, the technical team is monitoring these individuals using a folding VHF directional antenna, assessing their ability to survive, disperse and form reproductive pairs.

During the target's evolutionary period, the first four years will be dedicated to carrying out the diagnosis, following a monthly sampling schedule. After 180 days, a final report will be produced. Based on the results of the diagnosis, implementation will begin of the actions planned or proposed as a way of reducing impacts and trampling, as well as reconnecting segmented forest areas.

The 2023 result was below the established range, due to climatic conditions that prevented the sampling of previously selected fragments, thus reducing the identification of forest-dependent birds compared to recent years. The methodological criteria were adjusted for the 2024 cycle.

The concept of lives changed was introduced in 2019 at Klabin Safety and refers to significant effects caused by occupational accidents considered very serious and permanent. In 2023, there were six lives changed, two cases of serious injury and four fatalities (one direct employee and three indirect employees), related to mobile equipment and machine adaptation, critical points in Klabin's processes. To promote the necessary changes in this scenario, the company is making coordinated strategic efforts.

The 2020 baseline (KODS launch date) considers around 13.5% of critical suppliers covered per year, since the first wave of the Supply Chain Social and Environmental Responsibility Program began in 2019. The criteria that define a supplier as critical are: value of Klabin's turnover (spend), representativeness in the business units (Forestry, Pulp and Paper and Packaging) and recurrence greater than six times (in different months of the year).

The Hearts and Minds (H&M) model consists of a culture diagnosis and has 5 levels. In 2023, the units focused on working on the opportunities identified in the diagnosis in order to boost our cultural evolution. Through the PTC (Cultural Transformation Plan), actions are being carried out on a daily basis and monitored via PLAK.

In 2023, phishing simulation campaigns were intensified, with the support of the Communications area, and information on cybersecurity was disseminated every two weeks to all users, as well as workshops on the subject.

In 2023, we highlight the progress made in various projects, such as the implementation of initiatives like process safety, segregation of people and mobile equipment, digitization of processes and defensive driving training.

In 2023, Klabin recorded an increase in the severity rate due to four fatalities. Process Safety stood out with the implementation of a management system to prevent and respond to incidents related to the release of energy. In addition, a methodology was defined to assess and mitigate risks in the transit of people and mobile equipment, demonstrating Klabin's commitment to safety in its operations.

In 2023, the company raised the percentage of locations with initiatives to increase water security from 74% to 78%, with the installation of a new Effluent Treatment Plant at the Horizonte Unit, as part of its expansion process.
